US vaccine shots given

In the US, an average of about 960,000 vaccinations were reported in the past week, CDC data shows. That number has risen between 900,000 and 1.1 million in the past few days, down 27% from the previous week.

The former head of the Food and Drug Administration, Dr. Scott Gottlieb said on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” on Monday that he expects the vaccination rate to drop further.

“The vaccination rates will drop quite sharply in July and August,” said Gottlieb. “The bottom line is that people who haven’t been vaccinated at this point tend to be marginal customers for vaccinations.”

The vaccinations could return closer to fall as Americans consider getting back to work and school, Gottlieb added.
