YouTube blocks Heartland Institute channel shortly earlier than reside stream with local weather scientist Judith Curry

Note: This is the backstory to what happened yesterday when I was hosting the live interview. While we were live we noticed the YouTube stream was blocked, now we know why. – Anthony

Censorship on YouTube justified the closure of the Heartland channel for allegedly posting “misinformation” about the 2020 election. We do not have. And that’s very suspicious timing.

Every Friday at Noon CT, the Heartland Institute hosts a live program we call the Climate Change Roundtable. It is a timely discussion of the latest environmental and energy policy news that differs from the alarmist perspective echoed in the “mainstream” media. On Friday January 6th, 2023 we were pleased to announce Dr. To welcome Judith Curry as a special guest for the program.

dr Curry is one of America’s best-known and best-loved climate scientists – largely because her views differ from those of Michael Mann and other alarmists. dr Curry is not a “climate denier,” as Mann calls her. She’s a respected scientist who’s looked at the data, sees a warming world but no looming climate catastrophe that’s entirely due to human action. For this, she is reviled by many and feared by even more – including apparently the people who decide what and when to ban on YouTube.

Heartland streams every show live on YouTube, Facebook and Rumble. But the vast majority of our audience—both those who join the chat during the live stream and those who watch it later—watch it on YouTube. Like it or not, it’s the most popular video streaming app in the world. Freedom-focused sites like Rumble and BitChute have a very long way to go to catch up.

Anyway, just as we’re getting our show prep for the episode with Dr. curry, we received a message on the backend of our YouTube channel that we deserved a “strike” for spreading “election misinformation” in a previous video.

So, literally just minutes before we meet Dr. Curry and undoubtedly our largest live audience to date, YouTube shut down our channel and blocked everyone from watching it there.

The previous “offensive” video was an episode of the Heartlands In the Tank podcast, episode 293, which streamed in early May 2021 – 20 months ago. YouTube didn’t specify what was said, which violated its terms of service and ban on “election misinformation.” And it also went unnoticed for almost two years that a live stream that almost nobody has watched since May 2021 (and would be almost impossible to find with a general search on YouTube) violated the terms of service… until just before one live stream should begin with a non-alarming climate scientist.

It’s hard to believe that this was just a coincidence – that the algorithm accidentally discovered this alleged breach of ours – and it’s just our awful luck that it happened just minutes before we met Dr. Curry went live.

A better explanation is this: The name “Judith Curry” had caught the eye of someone on YouTube – or perhaps Michael Mann, who is sensitive to such things, particularly in relation to Dr. Curry, and he reported the stream to YouTube — and then a guy on YouTube decided that a live stream by a “climate-realistic” scientist couldn’t go ahead. So the pretense was invented that Heartland was supposedly spreading “election misinformation”, the strike was called, the stream stopped and high fives were everywhere for a good job by the leftist censors at Alphabet/Google/YouTube.

But when the character of “Mr. Universe” said in the movie Serenity, “You can’t stop the signal, Mal.” And we weren’t stopped either. You can check out our program with Dr. Keep watching Curry. Not only are we broadcasting live on YouTube, but also on Rumble and Facebook simultaneously. I’ve embedded the rumble version of the program below. [NOTE: When you click the player below, if it says “blocked by an extension” and/or “loading,” just give it a minute. It might look “broken” for a bit, and then play. If you can’t watch it below at all, watch it on Rumble.]https://rumble.com/embed/v21kw2c/?pub=b414h

Heartland will now be banned from uploading videos or livestreams from our channel for a week, expected to end around noon CT on Friday, January 13th. We will report if our objection is heard and what YouTube says.

Oh, and as for Heartland violating YouTube’s Terms of Service by spreading “election misinformation” on that long-gone live stream? Why don’t you watch and judge for yourself. While the YouTube video was sent somewhere in the Great Digital Beyond, the rumble version still exists. Don’t worry if you’re pressed for time. You don’t have to watch for long. We talk about this at the beginning of the show and then move on to another topic after about 15 minutes.https://rumble.com/embed/ve0gpn/?pub=b414h

We have not discussed the results of the 2020 election, nor have we expressed any skepticism about the results. Why? Because a year earlier we discussed the infamous Time Magazine article entitled “The Secret History of the Shadow Campaign That Saved the 2020 Election.” This story reported in the most positive way how the 2020 election was “boosted” by hundreds of millions of secret dollars from Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and other big Democratic donors. Just reading what Time Magazine reported on the podcast – essential if you want to talk about it – was enough to ban a previous video, absurd as it may seem.

In this latest alleged “misinformation” livestream podcast from May 2021 that YouTube only just noticed, we had to explain why Donald Trump was permanently banned from Facebook. Even though doubting election results is an offense that deserves a ban, we didn’t do it. We’ve talked about whether banning people who express views that aren’t crimes is worth ending your ability to speak out on social media.

To help us fight big tech censorship, subscribe to Heartland’s YouTube channel and to our TV channel, Stopping Socialism, where we live stream our In the Tank podcast every Thursday at 12:00 PM CT. We also regularly post videos on Rumble, BitChute and Facebook – so click those links to follow us there. And if you want to make sure you never miss our audio content, subscribe to the Heartland Daily Podcast, wherever you get your podcasts.

PS: I realize that today is January 6th. I know it’s like 9/11 and Pearl Harbor Day times 100 for the disjointed left and their “mainstream” media. So maybe they ramped up the algorithm to flag any videos on the platform that they might have missed in the last year or two and made sure those were flagged and removed on this “special” day. But I haven’t seen any other complaints on social media about others receiving the treatment Heartland received from YouTube today.

Again, we didn’t question the 2020 election result regarding the “offending” podcast. We said if Trump should be banned for what he says about the 2020 election, then it should be fair game to ban Hillary Clinton for questioning the 2016 election and Stacey Abrams for claiming her election to governor of Georgia was stolen. That’s it. We didn’t break YouTube’s rules.
